Dreamers Realm Photography, Digital Paintings, and Drawings

Date

2024

Dreamer's Realm is an exploration of the myriad landscapes that our minds wander through, visions of childhood, aspirations for the future, and the quiet, private dreams that shape who we are and who we want to become. This exhibition is both personal and universal, inviting viewers to reconnect with their dreams and the endless possibilities that exist within imagination.

From the innocent ambitions of youth to the fears and wonders that accompany growth, Dreamer's Realm offers a visual journey through the dreams that sustain and transform us. Through a collection of surrealistic artworks that is depicted using photography and photoshop, illustrating the broad spectrum of dreams: the childhood nightmares that twist reality into unfamiliar shapes, to childhood dreams, the compassionate daydreams that envision helping others, and the aspirations that light a path toward our potential.

I created these works from my own childhood memories of nightmares that were similar to ones I had, as well as remembering what types of dreams I had when I was younger, about who or what I wanted to do or be. When you are younger you think about being something magical like a fairy, a mermaid or something else. For the sweet dreams segment, I asked the kids in the digital paintings about things that they wanted to be, see, or do and what some of their favorite objects were, then I created this works based off what they said and took some photos of them posing in the position needed to create the image. Then I thought about what type of dreams I have now as an adult and they are mostly career aspirations, I have always tried to help people as much as I can in any job or thing that I have done, so I depicted the type of work I have always dreamed about doing in graphic design with website event that auctions artwork for cancer patients and their families using Dreamweaver.

For the daydream series: Journey for the Cure, it is intended to depict a character writing a story at her desk, that takes her on a slightly different type of daydream with a small sense of horror for the situation she is trying to help deal with and fix in this surrealistic story she creates a magical cure for the problem she is facing. This story was created using photography, hand sculpted masks and airbrushed masks, and digital manipulation.

Each piece in this exhibition draws from our shared human experience, weaving together vivid imagery that spans the magical, the introspective, and the aspirational. As viewers move through the exhibit, I hope they will rediscover the sense of wonder and possibility that dreams provide—reminders of the worlds we build within ourselves and the dreams that inspire us to move beyond the everyday.
